Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has more than one hundred and fifty years of shipping and cruising experience. The company, which was created in Norway in 1848 by the Olsen brothers (Fredrik Christian, Petter and Andras) is still owned by the Olsen family.
In 1966, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines started to propose cruises from England to the Canaries with two cruise liners: the Black Watch and the Black Prince. Nowadays, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines operates four medium-sized traditional cruise ships: the Balmoral, the Boudicca, the Braemar and the Black Watch.

Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has a tradition of homemade British and International cuisine. Breads and pastries are baked very day on board. Fish is shipped directly to the ships from Norwegian markets to ensure high quality for the Norwegian Buffet. Tasty soups are home made every day from fresh ingredients. Late night buffets offers chocoholic desserts, but also the best of the British cuisine: sausage rolls, lasagna cottage pie and many other delicious dishes.

The Currency onboard Fred Olsen Cruise Lines ships is Pound Sterling. In the current climate an extra benefit is that onboard prices (i.e. drinks at the bars) are cheaper than on other ships using the Euro or U.S. Dollar. Fred Olsen Cruise Lines do not charge an additional service fee for the bars and tips for the crew are not compulsory despite an exceptional service quality.
One of the specialties of the Fred Olsen Company is to propose Theme cruises, among others: Golf cruises, Arts cruises or Civilisations cruises (named upon the cultural enrichment program unique to Fred Olsen Cruise Lines).
